You're a Pal and a Confidante →
On Saturday morning, I took time away from my regularly scheduled activities of dusting my butt and dressing my dog in human clothes to attend [my town’s] annual book festival. The lineup this year was impressive, featuring New York Times bestselling authors and—I’m told—highly acclaimed poets but the two words on the poster that got me out of my footie pjs before noon...

Let's Be Honest
I’m trying to write a succinct recap of my year but obviously for an unabashed music dork like me, it comes down to three things: 1) Meeting Nick Lowe 2) Interviewing Robyn Hitchcock 3) Talking baseball with Peter Buck The order of those three events changes about every seventeen seconds, but that’s the way they settled on the page tonight. Other than that, it’s a happy blur...

Tiger Woods & Nine Other Things: 2009 in Review →
A new decade begins in a matter of hours, which means there’s nothing left to do but shove this box of wine in the fridge, brush the last crumbs of ‘09 out of my keyboard and — of course — make a list that recaps the highlights of the year, because that’s what bloggers do. You’ve no doubt already scrolled through the Top Ten Books James Patterson Wrote This...

Comedy Central isn’t renewing “The Jeff Dunham Show’’ for a second season. The show, featuring comedian Jeff Dunham and his repertoire of puppets, attracted plenty of attention, both positive and negative. It debuted to 5.3 million viewers, a season-premiere record for Comedy Central. But most of the reviews were terrible, and ratings dwindled.

I’m just back from the grocery store and as I unloaded my Teddy Grahams and EZ Cheez and other assorted artificial flavors, I realized that by the time these hot dogs expire, it will be a brand new year. We’re down to the last handfuls of Oh Nine and I’m both dreading and anticipating the opportunity to crack into 2010. On one hand, I’m looking forward to using my new...

Both the book and the movie open with the last snap of former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann’s career, which proved to be the sound of his leg splintering beneath Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor. The footage from that game — shown from multiple angles — is still the second-most disturbing clip of 1985, right behind Cocoon’s scene of a shirtless Wilford Brimley. A...

Here are some selections from the filmography of Holly Sampson, Tiger Woods’ Mistress #7, for those of you keeping score at home.  I feel certain she brought both passion and vulnerability to the roles of “Victim Tied in Bathroom” and “Bound Businesswoman”.
