While I don’t have a kickass collection of archaeological finds like milkglassmao or a set of presidential bookends like emilyelisabeth, it should come as no surprise that I do have a 1989 Robyn Hitchcock Queen Elvis poster that stares at me from beside a 7” single of “The Man Who Invented Himself”, signed by Mister Hitchcock and Peter Buck.1
I also have a collection of shitty iPhone pictures like this one.
1 Peter Buck didn’t actually play on this track2 but when I was talking to him after the Cat’s Cradle show, he put his hand out to take the single—to sign it—and I visibly hesitated because the purist in me was all “But there isn’t even a guitar IN this song”3 but my inner R.E.M. fan was like “HE’S PETER EFFING BUCK, JUST GIVE IT TO HIM”. So it’s slightly anachronistic, but I dig it just the same. Although I probably should’ve just told him to sign my boobs instead.
2 Peter didn’t appear on a Hitchcock record until 1988’s Globe of Frogs. I know you were all contemplating suicide until you learned that.
3 Actually, there are maybe two measures worth of guitar near the end, but Hitchcock overdubbed that part himself. There. I just saved another life.
