One more Replacements-themed bit, then I’m going to make a running start at accomplishing some things.
In the early 80s, I.R.S. Records1 produced a program for MTV called The Cutting Edge. Hosted by Peter Zaremba of The Fleshtones, it featured band interviews and music videos and aired the last Sunday of every month. The Replacements appeared on the program and other than being a reasonably straightforward chat with Paul Westerberg, it’s notable because the band shaved their eyebrows before being interviewed.2
Interviewer: Why’d you shave your eyebrows?
Paul Westerberg: What? Are they gone?
1 Two Fun Facts About I.R.S.: The label was founded by Miles Axe Copeland, brother of Police drummer Stewart Copeland. Also, they invented and trademarked the term “cassingle”.
2 Paul said they did it as “a prank on the Young Fresh Fellows”. I’m not sure who the real winner is there.
