Here’s wishing a swell holiday to everyone on both sides of the Atlantic. Today’s track comes from the Pride of Slab Fork, West Virginia1, Mr. Bill Withers.
Withers had the bluest of blue collars when he started writing songs, shopping demos in between shifts making chemical toilets for Douglas Aircraft. He kept that day job long after his “Ain’t No Sunshine” single charted, just in case his music career didn’t, ahem, take off.2
