Superchunk: “Slack Motherf*cker”
It’s Tuesday morning which means everyone has Febreezed the Weekend off of their clothing, refilled their travel mugs and returned to work this morning. Everyone except unemployed freeloaders undiscovered freelancers like me…so I’m dedicating today’s track to myself and my pajama-clad comrades.
It’s been TWENTY YEARS since ‘Chunk frontman Mac McCaughan penned this song while unjamming copiers and replacing toner cartridges during his shifts at Kinko’s in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Since then, Superchunk have been hailed as DIY-pioneers, founded influential indie label Merge Records1, and showed up on the Coachella stage this spring. I highly recommend their recent EP, Leaves in the Gutter.
1 Merge has an impressive roster, boasting recent released by M. Ward and Conor Oberst, as well as most of Spoon’s catalog and some over-orchestrated Canadians called Arcade Fire.
