Anyone who’s spent more than twenty seconds on this site knows that Power Pop is essentially the pacemaker for my hook-lovin’ heart and nothing makes it beat faster than hearing that two of my favorite British legends have teamed up to tour and record together. John Wicks, co-founder of The Records, and Paul Collins of, um, Paul Collins’ Beat and The Nerves, have grabbed their acoustic guitars, launched a brand new website and are getting ready to start a west coast tour. It looks like their setlist is a perfectly blended mix of faves from their former bands as well as swapping lead vox for some solo tracks.
To check out high-def clips from their first-ever show together in Pittsburgh, clicky over to their site, the cleverly named johnwicksandpaulcollins.com. In addition to the video awesomeness, there’s also a tour calendar which starts on August 23 with a set at the legendary McCabe’s guitar shop in Santa Monica.
Finally—and I’m not kidding—John & Paul did a handful of living room shows this spring, bringing their “Starry Eyes”, Rock and Roll Girls, and a handful of Hollies covers into your house, a scenario that is a thousand times better than the Patsy Cline-themed hootenannies my elderly neighbor hosts on Sunday nights. If you’re interested in hiring the pair or would just like more information on how you can get the best ever Homeowners Association violation, drop a note to Rich Rossi at martinitimerossi@gmail.com.
