The dB’s: “Working For Somebody Else”

That’s right.  Time for your Friday afternoon jangle break.

It’s a timely song selection since I’ll be seeing 1/2 of the dB’s tonight—“Working” singer Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey (who’d already skipped out for a solo career by the time this album rolled around)—at The Garage here in Winston-Salem.

“But Jelisa”, you’re saying to yourselves. “Haven’t you already seen them? Like, more than once?”  The answer is yes and I’m going back because 1) I’m powerless to resist their harmonies; and 2) Because the venue is juuust on the edge of being walkable from my apartment, depending on how I feel about being stabbed in the neck.

The show will be a homecoming of sorts for these two who were raised here in Dubya Dash Ess before heading to New York to piece the dB’s together, start a record label, and create a sound that has influenced enough bands that you’d have to kick your Chucks off if you wanted to count ‘em all.

It promises to be a good time.  Happy Friday, kids.
