Today’s Internet Obsession

So on Saturday I saw The Minus 5/Baseball Project/Steve Wynn IV at the Cat’s Cradle.  It was hands down—or hands up, over your head as you shout along to “Medicine Show”—one of the best concerts I’ve seen all year.  Considering how many club logos I’ve had to scrub off my skin, that’s saying a lot.1

Anyway, Mr. Wynn has been writing about this tour on his website with almost-daily updates from their wifi-equipped van, like a 21st Century Samuel Pepys.  His entries are always entertaining and cover everything from the band’s Waffle House breakfast selections to what songs Peter Buck taught a gobsmacked Guitar Center employee how to play.

While you’re visiting his site, you should check out his discography as well, you know, listen to some samples and maybe add some of his CDs to your cart.  He’s a hell of a songwriter, who more than knows his way around both Fender Jazzmasters and Reggie Jackson references.2

1 I’ll be seeing them again in Austin on Thursday night which—I keep telling myself—isn’t creepy at all. For the three of you who are interested, I’ll have a full review of Saturday night’s gig posted shortly.

2 They played “The Straw That Stirs the Drink” at the ‘Cradle, a new track all about Mr. October.  It’ll apparently be on the Baseball Project’s next CD, which could quite possibly be called Volume 2.
