On Sunday, I heard Jack White sing this Van Morrison-penned track1 and I’d forgotten how solid it was. If you can get your paws on their 1965 debut, The Angry Young Them, you’ll understand why countless other bands have spent the past forty years trying to sound like them. Or Them.
Either way.
1 It was near the end of The Dead Weather’s set at the ACL Festival and was the only song that Jack took the lead for. The rest of the time, he was content to stay behind the drum kit—yes, the drums!—and let Alison Mosshart kick ass and take names by herself.
