So It Goes

Sigh.

So I’m listening to KEXP [Seattle] which is one of my all-time favorite stations and one I used to support when I wasn’t a freelancer.  When I had leftover cash to toss in the direction of public radio, I’d always make a donation, enough to score a logo hoodie or a stainless steel coffee mug.1

They’ve got a replacement DJ this afternoon, a girl who typically spins on the weekends when I’m not listening.  Five minutes ago, she introduced a Morrissey track from his “brand new album”—which came out in mid-February—and said that what she really liked about the record was that he “just found a guitarist that sounds a lot like Johnny Marr”.  Um.  No.

That guitarist he “found” is Jesse Tobias, who’s played on the Mozzer’s past two albums, along with Boz Boorer, who has been in the liner notes since 1991.

Then she mispronounced the Avett in Avett Brothers.

Why can’t I have that job?  I’m just the right amount of obnoxious to be on the radio and, holy crap, at least I know what’s up.  I may still be in my pajamas, but I can name the personnel on more albums than I’d care to admit.

Confidential to KEXP: Call me.

1 I’ve never felt more obligated to support public radio that I have with KEXP. The number of bands I discovered because of their always-inspired playlists is just ridiculous. I have no problem filling my pockets with sample packets of jam at Whole Foods, but I’ll be damned if I’ll steal music.
