9 Dragons, 900 Unrelated Thoughts
So I’m trying to wade through 9 Dragons—the latest Michael Connelly1 novel—which is so far pretty terrible. I was close to nodding off when he introduced a minor, minor character named Barbara Starkey and aaaaall I could think about was whether he’d named her by combining Ringo Starr (born Richard Starkey) and his wife Barbara Bach.
Then I abandoned paying attention in favor of thumbing through in the hopes of finding the names Yoko Lennon or Olivia Harrison.
Then I ate, like, fourteen chocolate chip cookies and went to bed.2
1 Although he’s gone in a decidedly Patterson-ish direction over the past few years, I like his Harry Bosch series because he writes about LA with the same kind of detail as Raymond Chandler. He doesn’t love language like Chandler did, but who does?
2 This is completely unrelated to the book and was going to happen anyway.
