So It Goes

[My high school guidance counselor] said, ‘I think you’d be good working in a supermarket.’ My heart sank, and I said, ‘I don’t think I’d like that at all.’ He sighed and said, ‘You should think about it.’

Graham Parker, on the career advice he didn’t take.

America, prepare to fall hard for Parker and his freshly reunited band, The Rumour. They’ll be playing a freshly reunited band (called Graham Parker and the Rumour) in Judd Apatow’s upcoming ‘This is 40.’  I’m incredibly excited to see two of his co-stars, guitarists Martin Belmont and Brinsley Schwarz, because they’ve been my favorite pub rockers since forever.  Schwarz gave his name to one of Nick Lowe’s first bands1 and Belmont was their hardworking roadie before he split to form Ducks Deluxe and why are your eyelids doing that?

ANYWAY. Check out some Graham Parker before you see the flick. And If you see me at the theater, just ignore the fact that I’m wearing a Brinsley Schwarz t-shirt2 and wearing the same delirious expression I saw on several post-menopausal woman during a matinee of ‘Magic Mike’

1 And, sure enough, Lowe produced their debut, ‘Howlin’ Wind.’

2 You know I own one.
