Five Albums I Would Make Out With
I am right now in love with these.
1) Bishop Allen, Grrr…
2) M. Ward, Hold Time
3) A.C. Newman, Get Guilty
4) Elvis Costello, Blood and Chocolate1
5) The dB’s, Stands for Decibels2
1I rolled out of bed with an intense Costello-craving and HAD to listen to “I Hope You’re Happy Now” before I could do anything—before I downed my first of five consecutive Diet Cokes—which speaks volumes because I’m pretty sure even if my face caught fire, I’d crack open a pair of silver cans before going to the ER. Also, this album was produced by Nick Lowe, another of my favorite greying British rockers, so it’s like a gangbang of awesome.
2My iPod shuffled out their song “Black & White” about halfway through my run today, so I came home and played it as I spilled Gatorade all over my t-shirt, staining Morrissey’s screenprinted face. I can’t tell you how much I love the chorus of this song: “I don’t enjoy you anymore/Well I guess I just don’t enjoy you anymore”. Their stuff can be hard to find but it’s worth it when you do. Much like the mythical G-spot.3
3Actually, this song’s available on iTunes. Go. Play it. Love it.4
4Yes, I just learned how to make these tiny numbers for footnotes.
