Birds of Avalon: Superpower
This track opens with the same shuffle as Steely Dan’s “Do It Again” and cribs a guitar part from Peter Frampton before the drums kick and the vocals take off. On the first listen, you’ll be lucky to understand any lyrics other than “Come a little bit closer”. It won’t matter. This is the type of song made for dashboard drumming, made for being played at an ear-melting volume through open car windows, and made for the days you feel like your life is just beginning and the future is just so damn bright.
Recommended For: Fans of guitar-driven 70s pop, anyone who owns Sloan’s Between the Bridges, and people who like feeling awesome at a decibel level that infuriates their neighbors
Bonus Dorktastic Trivia: Their debut album, Bazaar Bazaar, was produced by Mitch Easter.
