Today’s Tunage: The Minus 5, “I’m Not Bitter”
I’m high on the Minus 5 at the moment. They’re a band that have drifted on and off my playlist since ‘03 when I scored a used copy of Down With Wilco—the album that gave us this track—and I’ve swapped that disc in and out of four cars since then, keeping it in the center console for emergency road trip singalongs.
The irony of the title, of course, is that every member of Wilco makes an appearance on the record, with Jeff Tweedy taking lead vocals on a couple of tracks (and scoring songwriting credits). While Wilco are in fine form—fresh off Yankee Hotel Foxtrot—the Minus 5 also get their guitar sound courtesy of some guy named Peter Buck and have a more than capable frontman, the insanely talented songwriter/guitarist/superhero Scott McCaughey.
Also Recommended: The Minus 5: The Minus 5 (aka The Gun Album) which swaps Jeff Tweedy’s contributions in favor of The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy and Harvey Danger’s Sean Nelson.
